Making connections

It’s easy to miss this stone carving hidden behind a tree on the Elm Street façade of Berkeley College. Rendered (inexplicably) in faux-Egyptian style, it commemorates the operators who worked in Yale’s first telephone exchange, which was housed in a small pavilion on the site called the Round House (depicted at left).
